Interior & Living Spaces
The interiors offer a stunning mix of materials that include Venetian plaster wall surfaces, mahogany and marble floors, large format and slab marble surfaces in the kitchen and baths, custom ironwork and lighting, and gorgeous mahogany windows and French doors that can both open and tilt for ventilation. Recessed lighting creates ambient and spot illumination in every room, while a dumb waiter carries food from the kitchen down to the lower levels with ease. Integrated audio and vacuum systems are available to serve each level.
A recessed and columned entry opens into a dramatic foyer, complete with marble floors, Venetian plaster walls and anchored by a custom iron staircase. This leads to a spacious corner office and back to a half-floor primary suite.
The office is beautifully appointed with a private hallway that incorporates an opulent ensuite bath and closet storage on the way to a sun-drenched main room that is located at the Northwest corner of the house to capture remarkable waterside views from two walls of custom French doors. Custom cherry built-ins make this the perfect perch for conducting daily business, while a small seating area also allows it function as a first floor den. The room is easily convertible into a third bedroom, as well, and it includes access to a secondary dock off the home’s West side.
The back half of the first level is devoted to a glorious primary suite that comprises a spacious bedroom with exquisite water views through two walls of windows, a large walk-in closet, and a spectacularly detailed, marble-lined bath. The bedroom gazes out upon Lake Union and the neighboring houseboat dock for restful outlooks throughout the year. Hunter Douglas bottom up shades attenuate the natural light and can black out the room on the most brightest of days. The walk-in closet is custom organized by California Closets, creating ample wardrobe storage and dressing space.
The ensuite bath is a stunning creation in large-format and exotic marble and custom casework. A large walk-in shower anchors the entry, helping to define an inset space for the centerpiece Waterworks polished iron bathtub with Kohler ceiling mounted filler. A discrete water closet anchors the other corner, while a beautiful custom vanity, bounded by linen closets and storage covers the opposite wall. A pair of privacy-etched French doors opens directly out the surrounding dock.
The second level is devoted to luxuriously comfortable daily living and entertaining, composed of an open great room, anchored by a gas fireplace on the South wall, and a vast galley kitchen to the North that includes a large pantry and office area. Built-in wine storage, a wet bar and powder room complete this sumptuous and dramatic heart of the house. Walls of custom arched windows bathe the home in natural and reflected light from the water, while archways overlook the staircase and mahogany beams accent the ceiling. The main living area is at the South end of the house where it is focused around a large gas fireplace with an ornate wood and marble mantle. The dining area sits in the center of the floor, between the kitchen and living room, within easy access of two integrated wine refrigerators. Finally, a wet bar with its own beverage refrigeration and sink shares an alcove with a discreet, but magnificently detailed powder room with hand painted venetian plaster walls and a cast glass vessel sink.
The kitchen is a gourmet’s dream, with custom mahogany cabinets, fully integrated SubZero refrigeration, white marble counters with a custom fabricated sink, a 48” Viking gas range in red enamel and a dumb waiter. A large pantry is ideal for catering prep and storage, and also functions as a lovely breakfast bar.
The basement level brings additional functionality, guest and living space to the home. No longer possible to create on a new floating home in Seattle, this underwater floor matches the footprint of the house above, creating sufficient space to house substantial storage, a large laundry and utility room, a home theater and a third bedroom suite. The utility room features additional refrigeration, a large sink and top-of-the-line washer and dryer with ample built-in storage and counter space. A separate, organized storage room is virtually unheard of in more common houseboat living and lends significant flexibility to life in this wonderful waterborne home.
A large media room occupies the center of the basement, featuring custom built-ins for library storage, audio and video equipment, and a convenient bar area. Low voltage rail lighting illuminates the space, while the floors are covered in a rich faux leather.
An expansive third bedroom completes the lower level, offering a peaceful setting with custom built-ins and its own underwater portholes in a nod to the home’s nautical nature. This lovely guest area is served by a walk-in closet, and a private bath, with elegant marble surfaces.
Finally, perhaps the most dramatic area of this spectacular home is its full-footprint rooftop patio. Finished in teak decking and surrounded by glass, it offers endless, 360 degree views over Lake Union, Downtown Seattle, Queen Anne Hill, Fremont and Ballard, Gas Works Park, the University Bridge, Mt. Rainier, the Olympic Mountains and all of the boat and sea plane traffic that regularly populates this dynamic body of water. With multiple gas hookups for cooking, fire pits and heaters, as well as tons of room for lounging and entertaining, this is the ultimate Seattle amenity – the ideal perch from which to enjoy 4th of July fireworks and the region’s spectacular summers. Moorage and a boat lift complete this dream-worthy outdoor environment.
